Jack of All Trades - Master of none

Pagi ini saya merasa tergelitik dengan salah satu artikel yang di post di sebuah forum Indonesia yang mewacanakan sistem pendidikan kita yang terlalu "mengkompres" otak kita. Di dalam artikel tersebut dicantumkan bahwa di Indonesia terlalu banyak pelajaran atau bidang yang harus dikuasai sehingga kita tidak memiliki waktu yang cukup untuk mempelajari lebih dalam pada satu bidang yang kita sukai.
Sebagai contoh, di Sekolah Dasar para murid yang berumur 5-6 tahun dibebani 10 mata pelajaran yang "nikmati" selama tahun pertama. Lanjut lagi di jenjang SMA yang disuguhi 15 mata pelajaran pada tahun pertama. Ketika memasuki perguruan tinggi, Mahasiswa mendapat 144 SKS sedangkan mahasiswa di Singapura hanya mendapatkan beban 72 SKS. Sebenarnya Orang Indonesia itu lebih hebat dari orang luar negeri, lebih mampu memahami masalah dengan pemahaman lintas bidangnya sendiri namun sayang tidak sampai memasuki tahap ahli dalam satu bidang.

Jack of All Trades, Master of None, adalah istilah yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan orang yang mampu mengerjakan segala hal atau mempunyai banyak keterampilan tapi tidak mempunyai keahlian dalam satu bidang pun. Ini adalah hal yang tepat untuk menggambarkan orang Indonesia pada umumnya, kita mampu mengerjakan segala macam persoalan tapi tidak mampu menjadi ahli dalam satu bidang. Istilah yang saya pernah dengar untuk mendeskripsikan hal ini adalah "Skill Tabok Semua", terdengar agak lucu di telinga. Memang ada sebagian orang yang tidak termasuk orang-orang yang disebut sebagai "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" ini mereka antara lain Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Aristoteles, Sir Isaac Newton, Leonardo da Vinci dan para tokoh Reinasanse Eropa lainnya.

 

 

Mereka yang saya sebutkan tadi adalah para ilmuwan yang memiliki keahlian diatas rata-rata atau menjadi master di berbagai bidang yang berbeda biasa juga dikenal dengan istilah Polymath (yang berarti "having learned much").

Setelah dua tahun

Di sebuah kota sederhana tenang dengan peradaban yang sudah maju dikejutkan dengan berita burung tentang penerimaan penduduk oleh kota yang memiliki peradaban yang maju dengan tetap menjaga keselarasan dengan alam. Seluruh penduduk kota sederhana tersebut memilih bermigrasi ke kota impian yang ada dalam berita burung tadi. Tanpa mengecek kebenaran akan berita tadi seluruh penduduk dengan membawa perlengkapan dan perbekalan yang secukupnya mereka menuju ke kota impian tadi. Setelah membakar seluruh bangunan mengembalikan kota ke alam mereka berangkat. Namun sayang kota yang mereka tuju hanya khayalan kosong mereka.
Kota yang mereka bangun telah luluh lantah dan kota yang mereka tuju hanyalah mimpi mereka.
Lalu bagaimana mereka setelah dua tahun semenjak kejadian itu
